Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Direct Primary Care and Trust DPC.

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC)?
Direct primary care is like concierge for regular every day people.

Direct Primary Care is a healthcare model where patients pay a flat monthly fee directly to their physician for primary care services. This eliminates the need for insurance billing, copays, and deductibles for primary care. DPC allows doctors to spend more time with patients and focus on actually fixing the problems rather than volume. Learn more here: How DPC Works.
Why DPC?
Health insurance should be for emergencies or unpredictable catastrophes. Health care should be for day-to-day health issues. DPC is trying to make health care too cheap to insure. In other words, you wouldn't make a claim to your car insurance every time you filled up with gas, got an oil change, or bought new tires. It should be the same way with health care! Read more here: How DPC Works.
Why "Trust" in the name?
Trust is the foundation of any relationship, especially the doctor-patient relationship! I feel like the medical establishment--along with many other positions of authority--lost the trust of a large portion of the population after the covid pandemic, and we, by and large in the medical field, have not been doing a good job of regaining that trust. Trust is not doing whatever someone says without questioning it (that's blind faith). Trust is earned through consistently and reliably demonstrating competence, genuineness/authenticity, and shared values. So why the name? I feel like trust is at the core of what I am doing here as a doctor and if I can earn your trust, then I believe there is no obstacle that we can't take down together to get you to better health and wellness. Even if I can't restore people's trust in the medical profession in general, I believe that aiming for this ideal genuinely has the power to heal the world.
How much does Trust DPC cost?

Can I use my HSA to pay the membership fee?
Yes. Starting January 1, 2026, new legislation allows you to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) funds to pay for DPC membership fees: up to $150 per month for individuals and $300 per month for families. You can also use your HSA for qualified labs, medications, and procedures not directly covered by your membership fee.
Do I need insurance to join Trust DPC?
No, you do not need insurance to join Trust DPC. Our model is designed to work without insurance for primary care. However, I do recommend maintaining a high-deductible or catastrophic health insurance plan for emergencies, hospitalizations, and specialist care. DPC pairs very well with high-deductible health plans (HDHPs) and Health Savings Accounts (HSAs).
Does Trust DPC take insurance?
No. To receive services from Trust DPC, you must pay a monthly membership/subscription fee.
Can I join Trust DPC if I have insurance?
Yes. You can join Trust DPC if you have insurance. Most people will keep their health insurance with a high deductible plan to keep the premium low and then in addition join a DPC (and pay using their HSA for added tax benefits). You can also join if you don't have insurance. Since DPC uses a monthly membership fee instead of billing insurance, it is able to operate completely outside of the insurance system.
Should I cancel my insurance once I join Trust DPC / Is DPC a replacement for health insurance?
No, DPC is not a replacement for health insurance. Please do not cancel your insurance just because you are a member of a DPC. I recommend keeping your health insurance for unpredictable catastrophic health events, hospitalizations, and specialist care if needed. Then use the DPC for the rest of your day-to-day healthcare needs.

Is telehealth included?
Yes. Telehealth visits — including video and phone consultations — are fully included in your flat monthly membership fee. There are no extra charges for virtual visits. Secure messaging with Dr. Wiher is also included. Telehealth is perfect for minor illnesses or follow up discussions about chronic illnesses or lab results. Dr. Wiher will let you know if there is a situation that is not appropriate for telehealth.
Can I still see a specialist if needed?
Absolutely. If you need specialist care, Dr. Wiher will coordinate referrals and work with your chosen specialist to ensure continuity of care. DPC pairs well with a high deductible or catastrophic insurance plan that covers specialist visits, or you can pay cash for specialist visits at discounted rates. There is also the option for specialist e-consults if there is not necessarily a need for regular follow up visits.
Do you give vaccines?
Not at this time.
Where does your last name come from?
It's my dad's surname. His dad, my Grandpa came to America from a small mountain town in Switzerland. Before that, his side of the family had a vineyard and made wine. In Swiss "Wi" means wine and "her" is like a person. So Wiher means wine person or like a "vintner".
Is there a contract or long-term commitment?
There is no long-term contract. Trust DPC operates on a month-to-month membership. You can cancel at any time with 30 days' notice.
